Apache 2.4.6, shibd 2.6.0, Shibboleth.sso/status always returns 404

There is absolutely no connection I can think of between canonical names on the vhost and what you originally asked about. I may or may not have said something to the effect that I rarely understand or have confirmed, reproducible behavior around a lot of Apache settings, so this might be one.

Just old and somewhat historical since it used to be pretty much mandatory to rely on the map. It simply doesn't have anything to do with handler dispatch absent some really weird settings, that's all I meant.
