The Elasticsearch folks state (https://www.elastic.co/blog/a-heap-of-trouble) G1 GC has had "scary" bugs in recent builds.  Probably, the IdP is not complex enough to trigger most GC bugs, but I would personally hold off until there is more confidence about G1 GC.  There's a reason it isn't the default yet even though it outperforms the older GCs.  64-bit servers with enough memory to easily run practically any configuration of the reference IdP software are so incredibly cheap now...
