Odd issue after upgrade

I am in the process of upgrading our TEST IdP software from v2 to v3 (3.1.2
to be more precise)
I believe I've followed all of the instructions for a non-root Tomcat 8
Linux installation

I'm able to see the status page
I'm able to login to a test Google Apps domain when I use IE 11
When I try to login using Firefox 41 the login process hangs.
I can see a successful login in the idp-process.log
If I turn on firebug I can stop the webpage load process and I can see that
it is stuck on posting the result back to the SP. I can see that it wants to
do an javascript post after the document loads.
The problem seems to be that it never finishes loading the page.

Has anyone seen this behaviour after an upgrade?
