Commons-daemon procrun, jetty, IDP 2.3.8 and logback log rotation problem

One of my IDP's (version 2.3.8) runs on Windows Server 2008, under Jetty 7.3

I configured procrun to run jetty as a service, but noticed the 
shibboleth logs weren't rotating daily.  It does rotate the log only if 
I restart the IdP.

I believe the problem turns out to be related to some known issues with 
procrun and logback/log rotation.  I found these:

I will create a scheduled task to perform the rotation at midnight, but 
just posting here for information, and also in case someone has further 
advice or experience with this, which I would be very grateful to receive,
