I'm afraid I don't have any answers for you
We also use the Google search appliance for search and are interested in potential integration. We are just revamping our search. The prototype is at https://my.ncl.ac.uk/search/prototype2013.php?q=law&s=all&l=&go=Search we hope to live launch in 2 weeks. The interface includes the ability to shib login to see "internal content" however that is not linked up to google doing a SAML login when it crawls it just gets access to IP address restricted content. We would be interested in setting SAML based login though, give me a shout if you want to information share.
Regards
Cal
