It was in fact easy to build a delegated Servlet proxy to use, so that’s now being done. The original servlet declarations will work if people have them, but the initializer will now optionally register proxied versions that talk to Spring beans with inline property-driven configuration so the 5.0 way will be to flip a flag in web.xml to register the optional servlets and configure them via Spring.
