I thought that Tom had had a commitment from the maven people that uploading without signatures was verboten?

As I just commented to Ian on Slack the bottom line from Redhat is that they only sign (in some complicated manner) things that they distribute - which is not unlike us. Only they make it worse by continuing to upload to maven central. I suppose the lack of signatures is an indication to the wise that they are not to be trusted rather than “thank Zeus, I don’t need to check the signature on this distro” which 99.99% will do.

A suggested workaround would be to

* download the required jars on our test Redhat machine (we get to do that, right?)
* check the signatures in the canonical Redhat way
* sign the jars ourselves
* change the enforcer to flip the ordering on looking for signatures, checking the trust store first and then going out to the interweb.
