I think it would be hard to make the case that we ought to spend effort on a long-term “fix” of the type you elaborate given that we’re not dependent on Hibernate for v5. So I reckon if we’re going to bodge it, it should be a short-term bodge we can leave behind with 4.x.

The main alternative is probably to just leave Hibernate at 5.4.30 for 4.3. How do we feel about that?
