Expired Password message not displaying. IdP v5

Environment
IdP v5.1.3
openLDAP  v2.5.18 (Symas)
as supplied login.vm

When a users password has EXPIRED we are not getting the message "Your password has expired" on the login page. This works OK for IdP v4.3.3 against the same openLdap server. Instead we are getting  the bad-password.message

The expiring password intercept works.
The bad-password message is working
The bad-username message is working


The idp-process.log show this

Is there an entry in messages.properties or ldap.properties that I need to add to get this to work?
