Shibboleth IdP MDQ caching duration

Hello list.

My understanding of the documentation about DynamicHTTPMetadataProvider( 
https://shibboleth.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IDP4/pages/1265631638/DynamicHTTPMetadataProvider) 
is that caching duration is computed this way:
refreshDelayFactor * initially determined refresh time
and bounded by minCacheDuration and maxCacheDuration parameters.

But I does not understand how is computed this "initially determined 
refresh time". I suppose it is server-side provided cacheDuration, when 
available, when what happens when there is not such value ?
