Dear users of the Debian/Ubuntu Shibboleth SP

As some of you know, SWITCH has provided for many years its own
Debian/Ubuntu packages for the Shibboleth Service Provider. We did this
to address the issue that the Shibboleth SP version for these two
distributions often lagged considerably behind due to Debian/Ubuntu's
distribution release policy.

Even though we have always stated that the packages we provide are
intended for Shibboleth users of our SWITCHaai federation, they were
downloaded also by many SP operators from other federations. This is the
reason why we distribute the following announcement more widely:

*************************************************************************
As of *Nov. 30th 2021 SWITCH will no longer provide updates* for
its own Ubuntu/Debian packages. Of course the official Debian/Ubuntu
packages still will exist further.

As of *Nov. 30th 2022 https://pkg.switch.ch/switchaai/ will be removed*.

We recommend using the official Debian/Ubuntu packages from now on.
Instructions on how to switch to the official packages will be
published on the above web page.
*************************************************************************

If somebody is interested into taking over our tools/configurations to
create .deb packages, please contact us. We are willing to make the GIT
repository containing this material available to interested parties.

SWITCH would like to specially thank Ferenc Wágner, the maintainer of
the official Debian packages, for his efforts and support to provide
Shibboleth packages for this distribution.

Best Regards
Lukas Hämmerle

PS: Sorry for cross-posting.
