Problems executing Duo code from mini-browser

I have a user using MacOS Mojave trying to login to the Box Drive app which runs in a mini-browser but when the Duo app appears there is no information inside the Duo box, it's totally empty. When the user logs into Box using a browser I see this in the log:

Profile Action ValidateDuoWebResponse: Duo authentication succeeded for ...

followed by a standard Shibboleth-Audit line.

but for these Drive app logins it just shows:

Profile Action ValidateExternalAuthentication: External authentication succeeded for user

with no Audit line, so obviously no attributes are being passed back to the application (hence the blank window I would assume).

We tested on MacOS Catalina and it works just fine.

Would this be an OS or browser problem? Thanks!
