I think either Jetty 9.4+ or Tomcat 9+ is supported.
The note about “Only Tomcat 9+ is officially supported by the project at this time” is referring to older versions of Tomcat

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Shibboleth IdP 4 System Requirements Clarification
Hi everyone.
The “SystemRequirements” page on the Shibboleth IdP 4 wiki (https://wiki.shibboleth.net/confluence/display/IDP4/SystemRequirements<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__wiki.shibboleth.net_confluence_display_IDP4_SystemRequirements&d=DwMGaQ&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=YbL7Tj_EqBW9abl6xEy1bg&m=I26PbA1opp_w2f7_PzRpzdM2lwQD0UlKapSVmQsTxDY&s=WM6m0FZ_6NQRMNfx_yRjBBSzhqLdeEOmKfqGM52Ct0I&e=>), under the "Other platform/version requirements” heading says "Only Tomcat 9+ is officially supported by the project at this time.” But 2 bullet points below that it also says "The recommended container implementation is Jetty... At present, Jetty 9.4 is recommended.”
So is the recommendation to use a container that isn’t officially supported? Or has the official support for Tomcat 9+ changed? Or are both Tomcat 9+ and Jetty 9.4 officially supported?
Thanks.
