You call the start and finish methods in your servlet, you don't implement the class yourself. You can look at the existing RemoteUser and X509 examples that use that API, or hopefully somebody else with some time can help further.

I did the docs I had time to write, and if that's not sufficient (as I'm sure they aren't) there really isn't a lot I can do for you on list. That's what paid consortium membership is for now, and the value of that change to the viability of this project has been amply demonstrated by the huge increase in membership.
