From https://mydomain/Shibboleth.sso/Session, I can see session is created and same is found in log. I have not set homeURL in shibboleth2.xml. Even if I set any homeURL, its first hitting https://mydomain/Shibboleth.sso/SAML2/POST <https://mydomain/Shibboleth.sso/SAML2/POST> and redirecting to homeURL.
I have set relyingParty in shibboleth2.xml as:
<RelyingParty keyName="https://idp1.idm.msu.edu/idp/shibboleth">
</RelyingParty>
So where problem could be?

If you want to know what the SP is actually doing, look at its logs and it will tell you. If it generated a 302 at that location to a custom value supplied for homeURL, there is little doubt that it processed the SAML response and created a session and with no relay state defaulted itself to redirecting to homeURL. That's it.
