That depends whether you consider IdP-initiated SSO to be "going through an SP", but the only way to authenticate to the IdP is to execute a profile flow or administrative flow that requires authentication, at which point it happens. It does not happen any other way and there's no reason for it to other than some sort of validation process, which is not a current feature.
