What you posted should work, so unless somebody files a bug I have no real reason to go looking for anything wrong with it. Externalizing it should work fine.

I forgot about the Site mess but as long as the Site IDs don't overlap, then there's no reason that all Site mappings and Hosts can't be in the same file. Aliasing is an entirely different thing. I don't think I would do it, but I suppose it's possible that aliasing a single site ID to two different hostnames would theoretically work. That's not what it's for though.
