Upgrading Windows SP 2.3.1 to 2.6.0

Nothing will guarantee it will work and 90% or more of the time it does not work for me on any given box, that's been true for the life of the project. If you have good luck installing it on new systems and it works, that's lucky, but it's not the norm.

The IIS configuration support has never been reliable. What has to be configured into IIS has been the same all along (filter and extension) but it has never been particularly robust about getting them there and IIS 7 is much worse than older versions about it.

The only answer has always been to manually deal with it when it doesn't get configured properly. I can only assume you haven't run into the problems most people do if this is new information.

One of the common mistakes is not installing the IIS6 admin interface feature, but even when that's done, it doesn't always work. That's a precondition, but it's not a guarantee.

Once it works, it stays working and since 2.5 the upgrades don't affect the IIS settings, so it works very well going forward.
