Hi Rob,
You are right, the changes I have made are described below:
/opt/shibboleth-idp/conf/saml-nameid.properties:
idp.persistentId.dataSource = PersistentIdStore
About the .jar dependencies. I've deployed the commons-dbcp2-2.1.1.jar, but the commons-pool2-2.4.2.jar was also required.
I don't have errors anymore on the /idp/status page, however I still don't have any record on my DB and the PersistentID attribute isn't been released to SPs.
I appreciate any advice.

I'm not going to review non-project documentation....

...but that means that the jar file (commons-dbcp2-2.1.1.jar I'd guess) isn?t there. You need to pop it into edit-webapp\WEB-INF\lib rebuild and redeploy.
