Thanks. As you expected explicitly defining the documented default works
around the issue:

        <Errors supportContact="<support-address>"
            helpLocation="/about.html"
            metadata="metadataError.html"
            styleSheet="/shibboleth-sp/main.css"/>

I will file it as soon, as I get access to the issue tracker. Currently
my IdP doesn't provide the needed attributes to the issue tracker.
