SAML SSO for Confluence / JIRA

We've got people wanting SAML SSO for Confluence and JIRA.
They've got hosting through a third party (instead of getting it directly
from Atlassian).

I saw the Dec 16 / Jan 17 thread about Atlassian providing beta SAML
support for cloud apps hosted through them. The other discussions are a
couple of years old now.

We used the miniOrange SAML plugin in one of our JIRA instances, but the
free version only really provides username mapping.

I've seen references of
https://github.com/chauth/confluence_http_authenticator, both in the Shib
wiki and the Atlassian marketplace, but that seems to be a Confluence only
solution.

What are people using for SAML SSO with their own installations (or
non-Atlassian hosted instances)?
