Alex,
Peter interpreted the error correctly and I think you've got the right fix. It's basically the same as no matching endpoint.
The Drupal application does not recognize that I am authenticated. It does not help
that documentation for the Drupal shib_auth module is outdated, and the
recommended configurations for shibboleth2.xml are based on an old version
of the Shibboleth SP.
Honestly, I wouldn't rule out that the Drupal integration itself is causing your problems. As you mentioned, it hasn't been revised for awhile.
Have you tried putting in a phpinfo() page to just see what variables and headers are making it into your PHP environment? That will isolate the SAML parts from the Drupal parts.
We've been using that integration for classes for awhile and it's fallen pretty far out of date. A lot of the configuration options used to be very valuable, but they're overkill or confusing for most modern deployments. If it doesn't attract another maintainer soon, we're going to have to switch applications.
