Where Do Schema Come From?

This is very helpful, thanks.  I'm glad it's actually confusing and I'm not just confused, for once.

I version config that I customize significantly.  How should I have prepared for IDP-813, and what do I need to do to merge?  If I:

A)  check out only files I have customized(relying-party, attribute-filter, attribute-resolver, metadata-providers, and a few others) and overlay those on the new dist
B)  change the namespace and schema declarations in those files to match the new distribution, and change the namespace usage too

am I good?
