Well, that wouldn't work since you'd had to have modified authn/password-authn-config.xml also to tell it to use JAAS and not LDAP. But I wouldn't think it would lead to that error either, and about all that I think could is you changing files you shouldn't have or changing them in ways you shouldn't have.
