SpelEvaluationException when SP logs in to Shibboleth IDP

I am setting up a Shibboleth IDP with custom JAAS authentication. When trying
to login with an external SP, an exception is thrown after I have entered
username and password in the Shibboleth login form:

Where could this come from? The only config files I have changed are
auth/jaas.config to add my custom login to ShiUserPassAuth, and
relying-party.xml to switch off assertion encryption for my SP.
