The RPMs for RHEL6 only support the web server that comes with RHEL6.
You'll need to use the matching repository for your distribution, if
the OpenSUSE Build Servive offers one. (Not only for the right version
of the httpd module, but for the security and stability of all
packages involved.)

Yes, software can be built from source. The documentation details
how. But in this case (an RPM-based GNU/Linux distribution of some
kind) it's just a matter of rebuilding the provided SRPM (source-RPM)
with the right arguments. That is also covered in the fine documentation.
