To preserve them, code would have to exist to do so, probably by saving them in the context tree in some custom context. That could be done with some Java code if and only if the CAS login flow is running the inbound intercept hook

It does not, but easily could. Please file an RFE issue and I'll attend to it before 3.3.0. It should be a pretty simple patch to login-flow.xml if you wanted to manually apply it to your install; you'd still have to write the actions needed to decorate the context tree and make it available to the UI.
