If the Tomcat didn't come from Apache directly, then I think you need to try a real Tomcat. I would also say that I'm starting to have some questions about Tomcat 7 and would try 8.

What was the exception? If it's the one in the bug report that led to me fixing the bug, I am even more strongly starting to suspect Tomcat 7 is the problem.
