I don’t disagree, and I’ve pushed back against new attribute definitions that overlapped somewhat with old attribute definitions, so I’m quite sensitive to both the issue and the impact.

This time, it’s different(and if anyone stopped reading there, I understand).  But I think it is because you could at least resolve the new names and find all the synonyms.

Which is obviously going to be the last thing vendors implement, but there is a huge international footprint that says this approach is useful, and it’s easy to point to a URL when they don’t get it.  With a URN or an OID, it starts with a history lesson.
