Which is why you'll find examples of 2 different "web service" data
connectors in the Contributed section of the documentation.

I'm not aware of "how to write a connector" guides, no, otherwise I
would have pointed you to it. But you have Java docs for the involved
components and you have example code to study. That's often as good as
it gets.
