I have used it in the past only on test rigs. It is workable but yes if you go that route you will 
be in a small minority of users and basically on your own in terms of support by the community.  
If you are not comfortable with memcache to begin with I would not bother.  However, all that said it still does work 
quite well when its all put together assuming you have a proper configured memcache environment.
