basic authentication and shibboleth module

Hello,

We are in the process of moving all of our core infrastructure to new servers, and as a part of that we are updating apache (we are already using 2.5.3 for shibboleth). The problem I am experiencing is that anytime I load the shibboleth module, basic apache2 authentication breaks. It seems to work on the older server (2.2.26), but not with the (2.4.7 or 2.4.9). I am unsure if I am missing something in the shibboleth configuration, but it seems to be working properly with the older server. Is this a known issue, or is there something I am missing with my configuration?
