Do I need to create a CATALINA_HOME variable?

Tomcat questions should go to the appropriate Apache Tomcat support lists.

(But since you're already here: CATALINA_HOME is an environment variable 
that points to wherever you installed the Tomcat software. It is 
normally set by the Tomcat startup script, so you don't need to 
change/override it unless you're doing something fancy with the Tomcat 
installation.  In documentation, it is used as a placeholder for "the 
tomcat installation directory".)
