Reg: Shibboleth IdP Self-Signed Certificate

That's your app containers certificate, not the Shibboleth signing
certificate. Simply obtain a suitable commercially signed certificate and
install it in your app container.

The Shibboleth certificate in the "credentials" folder is used for
digitally signing content of the SAML messages, not for securing SSL
connections. Of course, you could certainly use it to do SSL, it's
technically in the right format.
