shibboleth authentication used by 32-bit applications

I'm trying to fully understand this post as I think it is similar to the same issue I'm having:

http://shibboleth.1660669.n2.nabble.com/Shibboleth-authentication-on-Win-2008r2-64-bit-used-by-64-bit-apps-with-32-bit-DLL-td6809253.html

I have an 32-bit application (Advance Web) that needs to have 32-bit enabled because of Crystal Reports. I'm running Win 2008R2, IIS 7, installed 64-bit shibboleth. I don't have any 64-bit applications on this server.

Similar to this post, I can't seem to protect the 32-bit application. Reading Scott's respose:
>Question: How can Shibboleth be called to work properly in this situation
>with mixed 64-bit and 32-bit applications?

It can't, you have to pick one.

Installing both at once, aside from all the other problems doing it, won't
work because it relies on the path to get the IIS half loaded, and the
libraries are named alike. I've considered changing that, but it's a great
deal of work.

The author of this post also replied with You cannot mix 32-bit and 64-bit when it comes to Shibboleth, OS, IIS, and apps. Choose bit scope and proceed with all the same.

So my confusion/question; can I install 32-bit shib on this server and all should be ok? Or is the only solution to have 32-bit OS/IIS and install 32-bit shib.

Thanks
Brent
