Given the generally cautious negative comments wrt virtualized setups
let me add that Univie runs pretty much its entire fleet of servers in
this virtualization environment (with fewer and fewer exceptions),
without any isses as far as I'm aware.

The group I was in alone was in charge of several hundred
servers, from Oracle DBs, LDAP, Java servlet containers, and certainly
our Shibbolth IdPs and an ever growing number of SPs.

So while there certainly are issues in running any kind of
infrastructure of that size none of it really is specific to
Shibboleth (neither the IdP not the SP).
