We are running a handful of SPs for customers, and another handful for
in-house testing, plus an IdP and LDAP server, all on VMs (ESXi vSphere 5.1 hosts) and all
trouble-free.
Admittedly, our IdP to LDAP connection somehow cannot handle more than a
few requests, but this is not a VMware issue.
