Swing ECP Client, Shib 2 IdP and spring-security-saml2 SP

I came across SAML integration with the OpenJUMP GIS tools
(http://www.openjump.org/ ) that may fit some of your use case.

The interesting link to the java work is actually wrong though, try this

All I can say is that I found it a year or so ago and appears to have code
and docs for the ECP bits for a java desktop client.

I'm not sure of the vitality of the work either as the page was last
updated 3yrs ago.  Maybe someone lurking on the list could add more
commentary about it.
