I need to update that package. Found a bug in it a week or so ago where it would not release the sessions. The JARs should go into your Shibboleth build/lib directory, where you build the WAR file from. There are installation instructions in the doc directory of the subversion source tree. You can check out the source or just browse it from the Google project.

I will say I've had mixed results with it. In some instances I have, it is working well, no hiccups at all. Others, it seems to go a couple of weeks and then Infinispan gets into some internal state where it can't transfer data between nodes and the whole authentication process hangs because of it. That one requires a restart. That is using the configuration I have in the project with distributed mode over UDP. Other configuration types may work better.

I will try and get that code updated for the session not releasing bug in the next week. I had forked the project out of my internal code but still had my internal code for it so I've still got 2 code bases. My internal is fixed, but not the project.

Thanks for all the advice so far.  I’ve had a look into Infinispan and it looks by far the simplest and most reliable option.  I’ve downloaded the zip file but it only contains the jar files and no readme – is that right?  I’m assuming most of those files will need to go into TOMCAT_HOME/lib but there will be some configuration files to amend too?
