Server 500 error upon receipt of assertion

It's IIS.  Would setting the debug level of logging help at all on this?  I see nothing in the shib logs and the event log shows nothing...

I don't follow. Any error back from the SP may end up as a 500. There
still have to be logs if there's an error, unless it's coming from the web
server alone.

If it's IIS, it will hide anything useful anyway unless you force it not
to. There aren't really any conditions that would cause the SP to return
an error that wouldn't be in one of the logs though.
