SP modifying attributes before presenting them to environment for appllication to use?

It is possible to write plugins to the SP's attribute resolver but out
the box the only ones that I know of is ones that actually affect an
attributes values is the one that hashes a value and the one that
composes the various parts of a NameID into a character-separated
value list.

SPv2.5, I believe does contain some additional plugins to perform some
basic string mutations (e.g., concatenation).
