Thank you for answering as soon as possible.

I have changed added the appenders, and now I get the DEBUG messages. Thank
 you!

Regarding my acl.  This is the configuration I am currently having for the
file shibboleth2.xml

<Handler type="Status" Location="/Status" acl="127.0.0.1 142.150.182.43"/>

I saw some pages that recommend to set it up like this...  I tried to
restart my httpd and shibd and I get the same error.
