Hi Paul,

Looks like you're right, it just seems to be hanging when I try to ping
on port 389, I'll check with the networks team.  Also, does anybody know
of a detailed walkthrough to using both the IDP and SP

Ping is not a reliable means of verifying protocol level access, it only
says really that the logical path exists.

Find a tool, preferably a Java based one, to verify you can connect to
your LDAP server and make a successful query from your machine. I want
to say Shib includes a tool for this, search the wiki for references to
it.
