Only the latter is really the intention. If you copy the files, then the package is meaningless for you, and the scripts wouldn't get updated by a patch. The files are meant to stay put and you use aliases to get to them.

You don't, the feed comes from the SP. If you want to build your own for some reason then you change the feed path in the EDS config. But I didn't document the feed, not to date anyway.

None, same as the rest of those handlers, they're virtual locations.
