Hello Scott,

Thanks for your answer. I also tried the official repositories, but the problem 
remains the same. So the only option remains to compile Shibboleth myself. 
I also tried to compile OpenSAML with the "--with-xmltooling" switch (pointing 
to my compilation of XMLTooling 1.4.2), but it still fails with the same error 
message (configure: error: unable to link with XMLTooling, or version was too old).

That is not a production repository, it's my test repo. That is NOT where
the SP is hosted if you want a supported version. If you're beta testing
or playing, ok, but please tell me if anything you found ever suggested
that you should use that for production.

That has nothing to do with the conflict of course. The problem is that
the package names don't line up and they probably don't split the content
of their Xerces package like I do.
