We weren't really involved in setting anything up to this point (apart from this mailing list obviously).

Strictly speaking, at least 2 of those requirements wouldn't be met (there are people who build commercial products on our code and we don’t have a "NEWS" section or even a real web site that is managed by the project (the www site is for the consortium). I doubt they would care all that much, they just want publicity from use of their product.

I have no experience in it at all, none of these tools are familiar to me.

If it's somethiing you want to use, I can do it, but I have to create an account, etc., so I don't want to take the time unless it's something people are going to use.

I would suggest making sure initially that e.g. it doesn't assume code lives in GitHub or something silly like that. A lot of the "free" tools for things in the cloud tend to break as soon as you don't.
