Metrics dependency can be optional ?

Hi all,
>From opensmal-core-3.4.3 pom, it looks the dropwizard metrics-core is
required for opensmal-core, but I happen to see opensaml works without
dropwizard metrics-core dependency.  I am wondering if missing dropwizard
metrics-core will break some opensaml runtime functionality ?  Can the
metrics dependency be optional and this feature can be enabled/disable by
some configuration item?
