I don't think we're taking a particular position on people doing that general thing or not, and if there were a way to get to a place where we can support and document a specific approach, that's fine. Whether it involves what is currently labeled idp-war or not is immaterial.
In general terms supporting extensions better is a known problem, but we don't have a well-baked set of requirements around what we need to do at this point to accomplish "better".
