I also think just running the appcmd to unregister the module from a shell would be useful. My suspicion is that isn't working, and that's probably why the installer couldn't undo it. If we had some notion of why, then it might be fixable but I don't imagine it would be a repeatable scenario and ultimately it can't do much if the command just won't work.
