Canarie Installer suitability for Shib "quick start"?

Hi Dev team,

This past week, I spoke with Paul Caskey about installation changes that
would help a newbie to Shib get a "quick start." This topic is highly
related to the planned Quick Start Deployer's Guide that we collectively
discussed in the dev call of Feb 17. (If you weren't on that call, you
can find some info on the project here .)
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/13CQyHMD0ZAvLwZLD6RZSQ03ebrB5K-qE8DlsHhxwzNw/edit?usp=sharing>

Paul brought up the Canarie Installer. I know it doesn't deal with
InCommon right now, but TIER might be willing to have Paul work on changing
it.

Paul also mentioned that Canarie offers a test SP via a Virtual Box.

I'm writing to get your thoughts about the Canarie Installer. What's
good, what's "not good," what's missing? Other issues? (Here's a web
page. It offers a "test drive" of the installer rather than describing it.
I haven't tried doing the test drive (yet).

Note that I'm looking for your thoughts with respect to only a "quick
start" deployment.

Someone will no doubt ask "what's in a 'quick start' deployment? Well,
that's not set in stone, but here are some items we can consider:

   - Basical ability to bring up the IdP (ideally with few steps on the
   newbie's part)
   - Connect to the newbie's vanilla LDAP (for attributes for sure, and
   maybe also authN), preferably securely
   - Test basic attr resolution and filtering, possibly using a canned
   account for authN
   - Bring in InC metadata (ideally with few steps on the newbie's part)

If the newbie has a non-vanilla LDAP or other "interesting" configuration
issue, then s/he is not part of the target audience for the "Quick Start"
installation and "Quick Start" Deployer's Guide.

**

I'm also happy to hear about other possibilities for a "quick start"
installation tool.

Thank you!
